Ending Portfolio

Introduction: Latoya Jenkins is my given name, but I'm also known  and like to be called Baje Badu. For this past semester I've have taken a compositon english class. I'm a second semester sophmore attening Wilberforce University. Taking in so much information from this one course, I believe I have became a stronger writer, but not as strong as I could be. Something of the things I'll be sharing is the most three important things I've taken with me as this course become to an end. The first being how to write a  "Descriptive Narrative Essay" which is a story being told by an author to intrigue the read. It's have lots of details and is almost like watching a movie but your reading. The story is being told from one person propesctive, as life they are the one really telling the story.  The more sensory images, or description, that is used to tell a story, the more interesting it will be to readers. Next, here was "Comparison/Contrast Essay", when comparing and contrasting two things you need to be able to know the difference and the simliarities of both things. It's important not to have such a board topic, it makes it harder to narrow your thoughts. Finally, the last paper was "Argumentative Analysis Essay" In which was my favorite because I learned the most. Being able to extend my vocabuary and have a better understanding how to debate was really interseting. I've taken in the many different types of falicices. An Agruement Analysis is a debate on paper really, you have a topic and you have a point that you want to prove, you have facts, edvience and even your opinoin to make your arguement successful. Before entering this class I've never written a Argumentative analysis essay. So I'm taking away something from this course.

He kind too, always asking am I alright. Mr. Collins like me, I can tell. He always winking at me like the little girl off the Wendy's commercial. It felt good to know that I had someone to care about me like momma did that day. I dried off and  put on new pajamas, pink, orange, green, and teal flowers.I laid with momma in bed like I normally would, but this time I couldn't go to sleep. I was so excited about my new pajamas, I couldn't stop smiling. I felt something, a hand, going up my new nightgown, into my underwear. I turned to look at momma, but momma was daddy and daddy hand was exploring my body, I laid there looking at the ceiling. momma told be before, that no one except my parents was allowed to see my privates or touch them, it was daddy so I  guess it was fine. It hurt though, daddy hand hurt me. I cried and he wiped my tears about, and He called me daddy's baby. Eventually he stopped and I felt better. I wonder were momma went, she came back in the room out of no where. I don't remember going to sleep that night, but I remember waking up. Momma and daddy was fussing, and I begun to scream, there was blood all over me, my pajamas were ruined. My momma said thats when I started my period. "Elizabeth, Elizabeth" Mr. Collins said he had been calling my name for five minutes now, "classes are changing your about to be late, lets go".

Comparison/Contrast Essay:

                                           History Repeats.. Final

I’ve Chosen to compare and contrast modern models to Greek and Roman Artist. Displaying how supermodel today has taken history and remodel it. The techniques that modern models have today are in many ways related to the way Greek and roman artist created their pieces. Modern models today show emotion, they do things to stand out, like making their hair very large and or wearing clothes that would make you look twice, they show confidence and their expression when walking down the runway is fierce showing some kind of emotion, almost having the definition of resembling Hellenistic art. Models to this day always try to imitate portraits like Mona Lisa and, the Spear Bearer because the pieces of art have so many techniques that a model today should have but even a person had there own twist to being apart of modern modeling, Isadora Duncan.
Many works of art especially the Greeks work of art are still admired today. Famous Artist name still remain known for their best pieces of art work. One of those famous artists being Leonardo da Vinci most famous for his portrait of Mona Lisa the mysterious women that still to this day remains unknown. Mona Lisa was created in the sixteenth Century and is located in Louvre museum in Paris. Also, still known today which was also by Leonardo da Vinci, “The Spear Bearer” created to show the proportion of human being.
The portrait of Mona Lisa which is just her face resembling a woman with a mysterious smile, she shows emotions; she has confident, even with the questionable smile. Modern models today have trouble doing this showing two emotions at one time. Just being confident is something so hard for a model to do, but knowing it’s possible because of this portrait of Mona Lisa. Mona Lisa presents class, by being fully dressed and crossing her arms. Most modern models try to act classy and hope to have the reputation of being classy.  She appears to have clear skin as if she takes good care of her skin, which is another thing modern models have to do be successful in the modeling world. Mona Lisa appears to take pride in here appearance her hair is neat not a piece out of place as well as her clothes. When I first saw Mona Lisa I would have guess that she could have been a plus size model only because she looks a little heavy, but she still depicts the acts of a modern model.
When I saw the portrait I thought about one of the main things a model should have which was confidence, resembling being poised. Having a natural look and being photographic, knowing the angles that would make the picture be more a success, knowing how to catch the light, even though Mona Lisa portrait was painted and not taking by a camera you would never been able to tell. Even today super models like Tyra Banks  try to imitate Mona Lisa trying for hours and even days to capture the same expression and even confident that Mona Lisa  portray in this photo.
Identifying the other piece by Leonardo Da Vinci “The Spear Bearer”, also resembles modern model techniques.   The Spear Bearer was originally created to show proportion of human. When looking at the Spear Bearer you can see the structure of the body. The muscles, resembling that body is being taken care of. The Spear Bearer has the shape, the confident, and even the face a modern model will have today. Being able to be total nude and still have confidence and show high self-esteem is a huge part of being a model.  Being able to stay in a healthy shape is something models today struggle to do, often ending in being anorexia. Today modern models really don’t have to concede to being extra small, because curves are in. Everyone is looking for that Beautiful face and curvy body. Like in the spear bearer the figure is not completely skinny, but is in shape and do resemble curves.  The spear bearer, because it’s a man (which can still be compared to modern models because there are male models) has pectoral muscles like the Kritios Boy.  The spear Bearer has a simple pose that is beings  shown in the picture but it a pose that super model still do today, also just recently use on the Tyra Banks show as a challenge  to the upcoming models, which was very difficult.  The spear Bearer has a fierce face and very confident pose, even with being nude.  Every part of the body is being shown, and important part of being a model and being captured in a photo is always having neck, to be able to look long, to give off the effect of being taller than what you are, and even though this is a simple pose that young child could do its more tan just that, it’s the small things like how the leg is being positioned, how the arms a turned and even the expression on the Spear Bears face.

Also an important part of modern modeling or modeling period is having a purpose. Being able to tell a story and showing grace.  Telling a story without talking and being different without looking for anyones approval. Taking huge steps to set the bar high, and that’s what Isadora did. She was the first to dance in ballet barefooted which was a sign of rebelling against classical ballet. She made a statement saying “I have discovered the art that has been lost for two thousands years”. Isadora was not afraid of doing what she felt was right and that’s what modeling is all about. The things you feel is wrong are always the things that are right in modeling. Isadora is a completely full example of a model she has what both the Spear Bear and Mona Lisa have but together. She shows emotions in her face as well as in her body, her head is turned upward and her hands are up in the air, as if she’s giving it her all. If you look close enough Isadora has one leg in front one another almost like she trying to resemble the concept contrappposto. Isadora is very much like Mona Lisa because she gives off class which is again something that’s very important, because being a model is like automatically being a role model to upcoming models but more important every young female looking at you. So showing that you have respect and dignity is showing that you have class.  Isadora is fully dressed, not showing barley any parts of her body. She appears to have clean and clear skin which tells that she takes pride in her appearance, her hair isn’t messy but every piece is in place.   She has a natural look, she don’t appear to be doing to much to look something that she’s not. She resembles to be what a person would look for in a model today, she’s not skinny, but she’s not over weight. She has those curves that a modern model should have. Also having something in common with the Spear Bearer she shows a similar pose as the spear bearer was doing. She is showing her neck and even though you can’t really see her face you can tell that there is some kind of emotion in her face. Being a model is nothing easy at all, having all these techniques are all important, there’s not one that’s more important than another one, but standing out and still being you and never losing yourself is what’s important. By having these art piece to look back at helps a lot of models out today. Using Greek artist and even Isadora as a guide to better themselves is such a great thing. I sure that’s modern models today would just love to give them a standing ovation. In my personal opinion as a model I would use all there famous pieces as a guide to become a better model. In different ways which was given for all three, do they all help out.  Wondering if the artist known back then the influence they would have now.

Argumentative Analysis:
                                                       Expensive Life Without Parole Final

In October 2009 capital punishment in the United States was officially sanctioned by thirty-four states. Since 1976 to 2009 there have been 1,167 executions within the thirty-four states. My claim being that capital punishment should not exist for many different realistic reasons. Lethal means capable to case death, lethal injection is the practice of injecting a person with a fatal dose of drugs  for the express purpose of causing the immediate death of the HUMAN BEING. Innocent people are victims of capital punishment, and what about those people who change during imprisonment? What is the message we are we sending people? Is it really ok to kill people who killed people to show that killing is wrong?  The death penalty do bring closure to the victims family who has suffered a great deal, and also it shows a form of justice. At the end of the day it really is a useless act, it don’t bring back the life or lives that was already taken. If a person plans the murder of another person it is consider premeditated, and they are giving a life sentence. The capital punishment is premeditated and planned action of taking another humans life except its by the government. It’s the governments “only” response to the legally convicted person.  Capital punishment is the ultimate denial/contradiction of the human rights, it’s cruel and unusual punishment, not to mention degrading punishment. Everyone in this society spends the same money, Which reads “In God We Trust”, if we believe in Gods law we can’t make adjustments  for “exceptional” situations. If we are living life according to the way God want us to we should follow his word. “Thou Shalt Not Kill” even if a person do commit this crime, which is without a doubt unacceptable and the person should have some kind of punishment, but who is the “Government” to make the decision of taking a life or who lives and dies. The Bible instructs us to forgive as the Lord has forgave us. Colossians 3:13 There are several reasons to consider banning capital punishment, my claim is not saying that a person should not be punished, because they should. Something has to be done to those people who commit crimes, especially when  a innocent life has been taken. Jury members are reluctant to convict a person if it means putting them to death. They might also be against the death penalty. Also the financial cost to taxpayers of capital punishment is several times more the to just keep a person in prison for life. After all it is a possibility that the government is taking a innocent person life. For example Tookie Williams was the co-founder of the Crips, he was accused of killing four people and as sentence to the death penalty. After five years of imprisonment he underwent a religious conversion and authored many books and programs. He begun to promote peace and started to spoken on the gang violence and how he no longer supported it. He was nominated five times for the Nobel peace prize and four times for the Nobel literature prize. Tookie was convicted and still sentence to death even after making a positive change, he never admitted to killing four people. There was a lack off evidence to against Williams, which left doubt if he even committed all four murders. Still he was accused of all four. Even if he did commit all four of the murders, why not give him life in prison. After his execution the fact that four people got murder still remains. Williams clearly changed and a lot of people thought he should have been given a second chance. Not to be a free man, but to be held accountable for his actions but in a more usual way then the death penalty. We as a society have to move away from the “eye for eye” revenge mentality if civilization is to advance. At the end of the day we live life according to God’s law, and those who chose not to should have him (God) to answer to, not someone who have little more higher authority.

 Comments  :Ms. Jenkins,

You selected a highly debateable issue concerning the Death Penalty, and have a strong, clear claim in your introduction. You did well in supporting your claim/argument with realistic examples and scriptures from the Bible, however, your support for your claim could be much stronger, as I am sure that there are several valid sources for you to draw from, such as journal articles and legal websites. You may want to review the Ohio Caselaw, or other state's Caselaw, such as Texas, or justice organizational websites for sources when you are writing your revision. Incorporating and analyzing these sources will so help you to make your essay longer to reach the required word-length for this essay, as the current word count does not meet the requirement for this assignmetn. Also, make sure to review MLA format to format and document your sources within the text, in parenthetical citations, as well on your Works Cited page. Finally, make sure to thoroughly proofread and edit your final essay.

Best regards,

Prof. Evans

History Repeats.. Compare && Contrast Assignment

I’ve Chosen to compare and contrast modern models to Greek and Roman Artist. Displaying how supermodels today has taken history and remodel it.

No Sunshine

My name Taylor Elizabeth, my mother named me after the designer Elizabeth Taylor. I don't know why, because that lady is famous, and momma always say, I ain't going to be shit and I'm starting to believe her. I'm fifteen with two kids, by my daddy. I'm still in middle school, I can't even read or write, but I go to school to escape. My favorite class is math, my teacher Mr.Collins is so fine. Mr. Collins like me, I can tell. He always winking at me like the little girl off the Wendy's commercial. I like him too.I look in his big blue eyes and lose reality, but then i snap out it. It's always someone who gotta mess up my daydreams. Terrell Raye, class clown, he ain't going to be shit either. He just like me, don't know nothing. He the smallest boy in our class, fifteen too, just like me. I wonder what his life, did his daddy F him, like mines did me. I was two when it started even though I don't remember that far back. I was five, my momma called out my name "Mook", I loved my momma then, she was all I had, all I knew. "Yes Momma" , I walked to her, she was in the bathroom running water in the tub, with bubbles. That was my favorite, and she knew it.! She kissed me on my forehead and started to undress me, telling me a story, about the birds and bees, I think thats what she said its called. she washed me down and even comb my hair, repeatedly told me how beautiful I am, and I believed her. I cried and he wiped my tears about, and called me daddy's baby.

I Still Love You!

I've Been Cloned

Am I who your eyes desire to be when you look into your mirror every morning? Am I the reason you cry yourself to sleep, because the reality is that you could never be me? Am I the one floating in your dreams, with your perverted thoughts and fantasies? I laughed at the sight of you, && disgusted so I barf at the thought of you. Who is the PATHETIC monster? Who CREATED you? I’m convinced that you secretly live a double life as me. Clone me not! I’m flattered truly I am, but I’m not impressed with your watered down duplicated version of me. I refuse to run around and repeatedly tell folks I’m something they can clearly see. Clone me not! I wear eyelashes because mines won’t grow as long as I like, weave because I cut my hair in high school and I miss the length. When you only enjoy these things because its makes you feel in your comfort zone, “fake”! (In my British accent) I’m not dying to be the human image of Barbie; actually I heard Barbie wanted to be me. You’re a foolish person to believe that any person lives without insecurities, that’s yours right there. I live because I have a purpose, a reason, and a goal but overall I live because I know the feeling of standing alone. Being me isn’t easy, && I’m not afraid to face the reality of my life ALONE. I smile when I’m happy, and cry when I’m sad. I have a mind so I speak it freely, willingly, && when it comes to how I feel everything will be said. Clone me not! Unlike you I’m not infatuated with MY life, I’m in love. My intentions aren’t to put you down to boost me up, but so you can clearly see that your impression of me is wrong. && You being you should never result to the way I live to be me. My Advice is to ask yourself who you really are, and what you truly mean, because you answers will never lie within me.....
